Birds chirping & chittering
Woodpecker pecking
Seagulls
Cardinals’ so-distinctive call
Bluejays
Sparrows
I heard a loon this morning!!! VERY unusual here...
Squirrel antics / acrobatics
Raccoon baby sightings (these generally occur in the evening ... but I did have a memorable Mother Raccoon experience the other morning, early 🙂)
Early morning sun on the tips of the tree branches.
(or on the birds, as they wing by overhead)
So….. The environmental crisis (long ignored; still mostly ignored by most of humanity) still really sucks, really bad. (& roars on!)
The political system?
Economic/financial system?
Religious system(s)?
Legal system? (I never call it a “justice” system ... ‘cos it isn’t)
Medical system (you can hardly call it a health care system. Maybe “health” care? (i.e. in quotes)
Educational system?
All broken.
Every darn one.
& the corporations rape and pillage with impunity
Long since, too!
“There is not a problem with the system. The system is the problem.” – Source unknown
All the Covid stuff?
Bleah.
The less said about all that, the better
Many of us have been saying plenty, but there appears scant appetite for facts & truth these daze.
The fact that the people who run things on our so-stunning, so-beautiful, so-abundant planet – are, frankly, batshit crazy? (& I’d say that’s putting it mildly.)
Sure. There is that.
But still.
Mornings are full of optimism.
Energy
Possibility
Inspiration
Or, well, they can be.... depending on our life’s circumstances, of course, & our thought choices.
“You need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. That’s a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. That’s the only thing you should be trying to control.” – Elizabeth Gilbert
& hey. This is also true. There are days when I wake up & would swear there’s a great big nasty elephant sitting on my chest. Maybe two. That is also real.
Some days it’s like this:
JUST UP...by Steven Barza
When we awaken there is a moment
before we remember
the burdens we bear,
that yesterday we lost or won
a fortune or a battle or a love
or that today we must go
to work or to court or to hospital
or we have nowhere to go,
before we start piecing together
who we have been or who we will be,
and in that moment we are simply
consciousness, sensation,
appetite not yet linked to
memory or will.
I like the way we are
in that naked moment
before we are defined,
in that briefest moment
before we don ourselves.
– Steven Barza. Reprinted from Crab Creek Review Spring/Summer 2002
But ahhhhh.
The ones that feel full of possibility?
(& Nature’s sights & sounds?)
These are the ones I love the most.
A new day “with no mistakes in it yet.”
(I think it was Anne Shirley – “Anne of Green Gables” – who said that??)
What a wonderful thought.
And hey.
All those birds...
🙂🙂🙂🙂
“After you have exhausted what there is in business, politics, conviviality, and so on – have found that none of these finally satisfy, or permanently wear – what remains? Nature remains.” – Walt Whitman, poet (1819-1892)
