My Friend's Liver Story
A timely allegory about knowing when it's time to retire one of our stories. About ourselves. Or about the world.
An old friend told a few of us a funny anecdote about herself the other day.
She used to have some serious health issues, this very dear, very long-time, very wise old friend.
Involving her liver.
She was at a party one time, & began to relate the story of her liver issues.
Another woman at the gathering - who'd had more than a little to drink - came over to her, leaned in close, & said
"I'm so bloody tired of your liver story."
Or words to that effect.
Boom.
Hilarious!!
We sure had a great laugh when P. related this funny incident to us.
Can I leave it to the reader's imagination why I immediately found this whole thing a great allegory at this very precise, very particular time?
In the days immediately following the re-election of Donald Trump as president of the United States?
‘nuff said.

p.s. the Orwell quote? Not relevant to the liver story, per se. But relevant in these times we’re living in. For those unfamiliar with media shenanigans, please take a look at my Media Memes posting from earlier this year. It may be that you know someone who might find it educational. (Many more George Orwell quotes here.)
